    Towson ( / ˈtaʊsən /) is an unincorporated community and a census-designated place in Baltimore County, Maryland, United States. The population was 55,197 as of the 2010 census.
    According to the Köppen Climate Classification system Towson has a humid subtropical climate, abbreviated "Cfa" on climate maps. Both the Baltimore County Public Schools, and the Baltimore County Police Department possess headquarters that are located in Towson.
    Towson is located at 39°23′35″N 76°36′34″W (39.392980, −76.609562). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 14.2 square miles (37 km 2 ), of which 14.0 square miles (36 km 2) is land and 0.2 square miles (0.52 km 2) (1.06%) is water.
    Towson is served by the Baltimore County Public Schools district, and the Baltimore County Board of Education headquarters is also located there. There are three high schools. Towson High School, founded in 1873, was the first secondary school provided.
